Who is Lenny Oleksy?

Lenny Oleksy, Mechanical Leader at Babcock Garage and Vice President of ATU Local 1342, seniority since 2006 and on the Executive Board since 2009.

His work is rooted in a deep commitment to union solidarity, member advocacy, and driving meaningful change for transportation workers across New York State.

Lenny Oleksy is blue collar through and through. He doesn’t just talk about hard work—he lives it. He punches in, shows up, and stands shoulder to shoulder with the membership every single day. His boots hit the ground where the real work happens, not just the negotiation room. That kind of leadership isn’t learned—it’s earned. Lenny’s presence in the garage, on the shop floor, and at union meetings sends a clear message: he’s one of us. He wears the same gear, faces the same challenges, and fights the same battles. And when it comes to representing ATU Local 1342, he brings that blue-collar grit to every negotiation, every meeting, and every decision. My vision for leadership is anchored in transparency, collaboration, and accountability. I believe in honest communication and inclusive decision-making that values every member’s voice. Open dialogue and clear reporting are essential, so all members are always informed. By restoring our union website and creating representative committees, for Bus, Mechanical, Rail and Clerical. I aim to foster an environment where everyone feels respected and heard.
